Singapore in late February is equatorial and consistent: hot, humid and prone to short heavy downpours, with temperatures barely varying across the year. For a quantum information conference the city is a natural host, given the national research centres embedded in its universities. The compact island means venue, accommodation and everything worth seeing sit within a short transit ride, and air-conditioned walkways link much of the centre.
Changi Airport (SIN) connects to the city by MRT in roughly 30-45 minutes, or 20-30 minutes by taxi. The MRT network is fast, inexpensive and covers essentially everywhere a visitor needs, with contactless bank cards accepted at gates. Taxis and ride-hailing are widely available and metered. Distances are short, so transfers rarely become a planning problem.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Welcome Pickups. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Connectivity across Singapore is excellent, with fast public Wi-Fi in malls, transit stations and campuses. For visitors staying only a few days, an eSIM loaded before landing is the quickest way to have data working from the airport onward. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Gardens by the Bay. The Supertree structures and two cooled conservatories sit beside Marina Bay, with the Cloud Forest dome offering genuine relief from February humidity. The evening light show at the Supertrees is free. Allow two to three hours, and buy conservatory tickets in advance. Tickets on Klook →
National Museum of Singapore. The country's oldest museum, tracing the island's history from its trading-port origins through independence, in a colonial building with a modern rear extension. It gives useful context for everything else. Two hours, and it is a short walk from Dhoby Ghaut MRT. Tickets on Klook →
Tiong Bahru. A low-rise pre-war housing estate of curved Streamline Moderne blocks, now holding independent bookshops, bakeries and one of the city's best-regarded hawker centres. It is the most walkable district in Singapore. Two hours including lunch, and mornings are the quietest.
MacRitchie Reservoir. Rainforest trails and a treetop suspension bridge inside the island's central catchment, with long-tailed macaques and monitor lizards along the paths. Start early to avoid both heat and afternoon rain. The full loop takes three to four hours; shorter boardwalk routes are available. Tickets on Klook →
How do I get from Changi Airport into the city?
The MRT reaches the centre in around 30-45 minutes, and taxis take 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.
What is the weather in late February?
Hot and humid year-round, typically around 30C with high humidity and short intense rain showers. Light clothing and an umbrella both help.
Do I need cash?
Rarely — contactless cards work on the MRT and almost everywhere else, though small hawker stalls sometimes prefer cash or local payment apps.
