Early November is the moment Mumbai becomes comfortable: the monsoon has cleared, humidity drops and days settle around 32C with dry evenings. It is also just after Diwali, so the city is still lit and busy. Delegates should plan around Mumbai's geography - the island city runs north to south and traffic, not distance, decides how long anything takes. Budget generously between the venue and dinner.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (BOM) handles international arrivals at Terminal 2 in Andheri East. Travel time into south Mumbai ranges from 45 minutes to well over 90 depending on traffic, so avoid scheduling anything tight after landing. Prepaid taxi counters and app cabs both work from the terminal. The Metro network, including the Aqua Line, now offers a faster alternative on several corridors.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Kiwitaxi. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Indian data is cheap and fast once you have a local plan, but getting a physical SIM as a visitor involves paperwork. A travel eSIM activated before departure skips that entirely and works from the moment you clear immigration. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Gateway of India and Colaba. The 1924 basalt arch on the Apollo Bunder waterfront is the city's landmark and the departure point for harbour boats. The surrounding Colaba streets hold the Taj Mahal Palace hotel, cafes and the causeway market. Go early morning or after sunset; midday sun on the open plaza is punishing. Tickets on Klook →
Elephanta Caves. Rock-cut Hindu cave temples on an island an hour by ferry from the Gateway, with a monumental sixth-century Trimurti sculpture. A UNESCO site and a genuine half-day trip. Boats stop running in the evening, so start before 11:00 and check the last return time. Tickets on Klook →
Marine Drive and Chowpatty. The three-kilometre seafront promenade curving to Malabar Hill, known as the Queen's Necklace when lit at night. Walking it at dusk with the city's evening crowds is the most reliably pleasant hour in Mumbai. Allow an hour, longer with a stop at Girgaon Chowpatty for street food.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. The city's principal museum, in an Indo-Saracenic building near the Gateway, covering Indian sculpture, miniature painting and natural history. Two hours is plenty and the galleries are air-conditioned, which makes it a good midday option. Tickets on Klook →
How long does the airport transfer take?
Anywhere from 45 minutes to over 90 minutes into south Mumbai, depending entirely on traffic. Leave a wide margin for departures, especially in the evening peak.
What is the weather like in early November?
Post-monsoon and dry, around 32C by day with much lower humidity than the summer months and comfortable evenings. Rain is unlikely.
Do I need a visa?
Most visitors need a visa in advance; India's e-Visa covers many nationalities and is applied for online before travel. Check requirements for your passport well before booking.
