By late March the Mojave has warmed into a comfortable spring, with dry afternoons in the low to mid-twenties Celsius and cool evenings — the last stretch before the desert heat becomes serious. A developer conference here sits inside the resort-and-convention machine of the Strip, but March is also the best month of the year for what surrounds the city: the Colorado river canyons, the sandstone valleys and the high desert are all within a short drive and at their most pleasant.
Harry Reid International (LAS) is close to the resort corridor at typically 10-20 minutes by road. The Las Vegas Monorail runs behind the eastern Strip resorts, and rideshare pick-up points at large hotels are often a long walk from the lobby. For excursions beyond the city a rental car is the practical choice, since most desert sites have no transit service at all.

Hotel and convention Wi-Fi is widely available, though resort fees and tiered speeds are common. Mobile coverage drops sharply once you leave the valley for the desert parks. Valley of Fire State Park. Nevada's oldest state park, about an hour north-east, with red Aztec sandstone formations, petroglyph panels and short trails such as Fire Wave. March is the ideal month before summer heat closes it off. Half a day, and carry more water than seems necessary.
Las Vegas Arts District. South of downtown, an area of galleries, independent breweries, record shops and vintage stores that operates entirely outside the resort economy. First Friday brings the largest monthly street event. Three hours in an evening, and it is roughly fifteen minutes from the Strip.
