re:Invent takes over multiple Las Vegas Strip venues at once, and the logistics of moving between them is the defining practical challenge of the week. Late November and early December bring cool desert days and genuinely cold nights — a surprise to first-time visitors expecting heat. Sessions are spread across resort campuses that look adjacent on a map but are not walkable in the time between them.
Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) sits immediately south of the Strip, typically fifteen to twenty minutes by taxi or rideshare to the main resort corridor. During re:Invent, AWS operates dedicated shuttle buses between conference venues, and using them is strongly advised over walking. The Las Vegas Monorail runs along the east side of the Strip. Rideshare pickup points at large resorts are often a long walk from the entrance.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Welcome Pickups. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Convention wifi across several simultaneous venues is inconsistent under load. International attendees in particular benefit from an eSIM as a fallback. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Red Rock Canyon. A desert conservation area about 30 km west, with a 13-mile scenic drive and numerous marked trails through red sandstone escarpments. Timed entry reservations apply in peak periods. Half a day including travel, and December temperatures make hiking genuinely pleasant.
Hoover Dam. A Depression-era engineering landmark on the Colorado River, roughly 45 minutes south-east. The powerplant tour goes inside the structure and is the version worth booking. Allow four to five hours round trip, and note that a car or organised tour is required. Tickets on Go City →
The Neon Museum. An outdoor boneyard of salvaged casino signage spanning decades of Las Vegas design history. Guided evening tours, when selected signs are relit, are considerably better than daytime visits. Around ninety minutes, and booking well ahead is essential during convention weeks. Tickets on Tiqets →
Fremont Street. The original downtown casino strip, now covered by a canopy screen and distinctly different in character from the modern Strip. Older, cheaper and more idiosyncratic. Two hours in the evening, roughly fifteen minutes by rideshare from the resort corridor.
How should I move between conference venues?
Use the official AWS shuttle buses. Distances between Strip resorts are much greater than they appear, and walking between sessions is rarely feasible.
What is the weather like at this time of year?
Cool and dry. Daytime highs around 15 degrees Celsius, with nights that can approach freezing. Bring a jacket.
Is a rental car necessary?
Not for the conference itself. A car only makes sense for excursions to Red Rock Canyon or Hoover Dam.
