KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe is the Cloud Native Computing Foundation's flagship European conference, convening adopters, maintainers, and technologists from across the open source and cloud native ecosystem. The 2027 edition takes place in Barcelona, Spain, from 15 to 18 March. The programme covers Kubernetes and container orchestration, service mesh and networking, observability, security and supply chain integrity, platform engineering, and the expanding set of CNCF projects that surround them. Alongside the main conference the week carries co-located events, project maintainer sessions, contributor summits, and a substantial exhibition floor representing most of the commercial cloud native landscape. Attendance runs into the many thousands, drawing platform teams, site reliability engineers, and infrastructure architects from across Europe and beyond. The maintainer track in particular offers direct access to the people building the projects most organisations now depend on in production. For anyone operating cloud native infrastructure, this Kubernetes conference is the defining European event of the year.

Mid-March in Barcelona brings the first genuinely warm afternoons of the year. This event runs at Fira Gran Via in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, south-west of the city proper — a large modern exhibition complex designed by Toyo Ito, closer to the airport than to the old town. Delegates staying near Plaça Europa should plan on a Metro ride to reach the historic centre, and Montjuïc sits conveniently between the two.
Barcelona-El Prat (BCN) is only about 15 minutes from the Fira Gran Via district, making it one of the more convenient European congress venues for air arrivals. Metro line L9 Sud connects the airport toward the exhibition area, and lines L1 and L9 serve Plaça Europa and Fira. Journeys into the historic centre take roughly 20-30 minutes by Metro.

The exhibition complex provides high-density Wi-Fi built for large technical events, though it is worth having a fallback during keynote peaks. An eSIM activated before arrival gives independent data across both the Fira district and the city centre. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Montjuïc and the castle. The hill between the Fira district and the port, reached by funicular and cable car, holding a seventeenth-century fortress with views over the container terminal and the whole coast. It is the closest major sight to the venue. Half a day including the cable car. Tickets on Tiqets →
MNAC. The National Art Museum of Catalonia occupies the Palau Nacional on Montjuïc, with the world's foremost collection of Romanesque church frescoes, removed and reinstalled in reconstructed apses. The terrace view down to Plaça Espanya is exceptional. Two to three hours. Tickets on Tiqets →
Poble Espanyol. An open-air architectural village built for the 1929 exhibition, reproducing building styles from across Spain in a single walkable site, now with craft workshops and restaurants. It sounds artificial and largely is, but it is genuinely informative. Two hours, close to the venue. Tickets on Tiqets →
Gràcia. A former independent town north of the Eixample, now a grid of small squares, independent bars and low buildings that feels distinct from central Barcelona. It is where residents go in the evening. Two to three hours, reachable by Metro in about half an hour from Fira.
How far is the venue from the airport?
Fira Gran Via is roughly 15 minutes from Barcelona-El Prat (BCN), closer than the city centre.
Should I stay near the venue or in the centre?
Plaça Europa hotels are walkable to the halls; central accommodation means a 20-30 minute Metro ride each way but far more to do in the evening.
What weather should I expect in mid-March?
Mild Mediterranean spring, commonly 16-18C by day, cooler after dark, with a chance of rain.
