Late October is arguably Valencia's best month: sea still warm enough to swim, daytime temperatures in the mid-twenties, and the summer crowds gone. The Palacio de Congresos sits north-west of the centre on Avenida de las Cortes Valencianas, a modern building surrounded by reflecting pools. Four days of PostgreSQL tracks and community events leave enough evening daylight to get into the old town and back.
Valencia Airport (VLC) is about 8 km west, with metro lines 3 and 5 reaching the city in roughly 25 minutes; Beniferri station serves the congress centre directly. High-speed AVE trains from Madrid take under two hours to Joaquin Sorolla station. The metro, trams and Valenbisi bike share cover everything else, and the flat terrain makes cycling genuinely practical.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Welcome Pickups. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Wi-Fi is standard in Valencian hotels and cafes, though the congress centre sits away from the tourist core where free hotspots thin out. An eSIM set up before arrival keeps metro navigation and restaurant bookings working across the whole four days. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
City of Arts and Sciences. Calatrava's white complex of science museum, aquarium and opera house, about twenty minutes from the venue. The Oceanografic alone needs half a day; the outdoor plazas and pools are free to wander at dusk. Book timed entry in advance, as October weekends still fill up. Tickets on Tiqets →
Turia Gardens. A nine-kilometre park laid out in the drained riverbed that once cut through the city, crossed by nineteen historic bridges. Runners and cyclists use it at dawn and dusk. It links the congress area to the old town and the science complex, which makes it a route rather than a detour.
Mercado Central and La Lonja. A vast modernista market hall facing the Gothic silk exchange, both in the old town. Go before noon for the produce stalls and a stand-up almuerzo; La Lonja's twisted stone columns take twenty minutes and a small entry fee. Closed Sunday afternoons.
Barrio del Carmen. The medieval quarter behind the cathedral, best explored without a plan: surviving city gates, narrow lanes, street art and horchateria terraces. Late October evenings are still warm enough to eat outside. Allow two hours, and climb the Micalet bell tower for the rooftop view. Tickets on Tiqets →
How do I get from the airport to the congress centre?
Take metro line 3 or 5 from the airport and change for Beniferri, which sits beside the Palacio de Congresos. The whole trip is typically 25 to 35 minutes.
Is late October warm enough for the beach?
Usually yes for a walk and often for a swim. Daytime highs are commonly in the low to mid twenties Celsius, with the Mediterranean still holding summer warmth, though evenings cool off.
Do I need Spanish to get by?
English is widely spoken in hotels and near the venue, less so in neighbourhood bars. Both Spanish and Valencian appear on signage, and a few basic phrases go a long way at market stalls.
