Sensors Converge is North America's largest event dedicated to sensing, embedded systems and the connected technologies behind modern IoT applications. Attendees evaluate work from 200+ companies across sensors, AI and embedded systems over three days of technical sessions, hands-on experiences and networking, with a focus on edge AI, MEMS and connectivity. Early May in Santa Clara is close to ideal - dry, around 24C, with the rainy season finished and the summer heat not yet arrived. The Santa Clara Convention Center sits beside Levi's Stadium in the heart of Silicon Valley, surrounded by the semiconductor and sensor companies whose work fills the exhibition floor. This is not a walkable downtown: the valley is built around arterial roads, and delegates should plan transport deliberately rather than assuming they can stroll to dinner.
San Jose Mineta (SJC) is the closest airport at roughly 10-15 minutes by road, and much easier than the alternatives for a Santa Clara stay. San Francisco (SFO) is about 45 minutes south by car or reachable via BART and Caltrain with changes. VTA light rail serves the convention center directly, and Caltrain's Santa Clara station connects the peninsula corridor. Many attendees rent a car.

Computer History Museum. In Mountain View, about 15 minutes away, holding the definitive collection of computing hardware from Babbage difference engines to a restored PDP-1 and an operational IBM 1401. Winchester Mystery House. The sprawling, deliberately illogical mansion built continuously for decades by the rifle heiress, in San Jose about 15 minutes south. Guided tours only, roughly an hour, and they sell out on weekends. An odd and genuinely memorable counterweight to a week of sensors. Tickets on Tiqets →
Santana Row. An open-air district of restaurants and bars in San Jose, and the most reliable evening option within easy reach of the convention hotels. Reservations are advisable when a large show is in town. Best treated as a dinner destination rather than a sight.
Levi's Stadium and Great America. Both are immediately beside the convention center - the 49ers stadium runs tours on non-event days and includes a football museum. Convenient when you have a gap between sessions and no transport. An hour for the tour.
Which airport should I use?
San Jose Mineta (SJC) is only 10-15 minutes from the convention center and by far the most convenient. SFO is about 45 minutes away by car.
Do I need a car?
It helps considerably. The valley is spread out and evening options are a drive apart, though VTA light rail and Caltrain cover the main corridors if you would rather not drive.
What is the weather like in early May?
Dry and mild, around 24C by day with cool evenings. Rain is unlikely by this point in the season.
